EventHorizon - Tutorial
The main steps to using EventHorizon are to choose your settings, then define your events, and finally view any appropriate reminders. This tutorial takes you through these three areas of the application.
Settings
Tapping the Settings icon at the bottom of the screen takes you to the Settings area.
Display Format: Allows you to choose the display format used by the Reminders and Events lists.
Time Format: Allows you to choose between 12 and 24-hour time formats.
Passcode Lock: Allows you to set a 4-digit passcode to prevent unwanted access to your EventHorizon data.
Show Icons: Allows you to turn on or off the display of category icons
for reminders.
Show Section Headers: Allows you to turn on or off the urgency section
headers for reminders.
Reminders Count: Allows you to choose which types of reminders are included in the reminders count.
Home Screen Count: Allows you to turn on or off the count of urgent
reminders, which is displayed in the EventHorizon icon on the Home Screen.
Tap on Notice Period to choose the default notice period for your events. This default notice period
is used for all events which do not have their own custom notice period.
You will see that there are three values representing the different urgency levels of Normal, Approaching and Urgent.
The values displayed can be changed using the + and - stepper
buttons, or you can tap on the value itself to bring up a numeric keypad and enter a value directly.
The idea is that first you choose how far in advance you want to see reminders for your events and use this to set the Normal
value, let's say I want to see a reminder 30 days before each event occurs.
Now let's say that I want reminders for events which are 7 days away or less to be classified as Approaching, I just set the
Approaching value to 7.
Finally I set the last value to 1, for Urgent reminders. Tap the Save button to return to the main Settings view.
Tap on Age Cutoff Year to choose the age cutoff year. Repeating annual events which start in the age cutoff year (or earlier) will not display ages in their reminders. Tap the Save button to return to the main Settings view.
Tap on Show Past Reminders to choose whether or not to show reminders for events which occurred in the recent past. Tap the Save button to return to the main Settings view.
Scroll down the main settings view until you can see the Contacts section. EventHorizon can display events from your built-in
address book. These events are read-only in EventHorizon and should be modified using the Contacts application.
Birthdays: Allows you to change the settings for the displaying of birthdays
from your address book.
Anniversaries: Allows you to change the settings for the displaying of
anniversaries from your address book.
Other: Allows you to change the settings for the displaying of other dates from
your address book.
Other Repeats: Allows you to choose the recurrence frequency of other dates from
your address book.
Use Contacts Photos: Allows you to turn on or off the display of photos
from your address book.
Display Order: Allows you to choose how the names from your Contacts list are displayed.
Tapping on a category allows you to edit that category. The name and icon of the category can be changed and the category
can also be disabled, which hides the category but leaves its data intact.
You can also specify a notice period for each category, which overrides the default notice period. This can be useful for
example, if you wish your birthdays to have a different notice period from your other events.
Each category also has its own setting for enabling or disabling the display of ages in its reminders.
You can also delete the category, which will also delete all events in this category.
Tap the Done button to return to the main Settings view.
Events
Tapping the Events icon at the bottom of the screen takes you to the Events area. The default view shows you all events, sorted
alphabetically.
If an event is now in the past (or a repeating event has no more occurrences in the future) it will be shown greyed out.
Tapping the Categories back-button shows you all of the enabled categories and how many events are defined in each category.
Tapping on the Edit button allows you to edit the event.
You can assign a custom notice period to an event if, for example, you
would like a longer notice period for this event than your chosen default notice period.
This is useful for events which might require extra
time to prepare for. Tap Done, followed by Back to return to the events list view.
EventHorizon supports repeating events. An event can repeat forever, or repeat until a specified date, or repeat for a specified number of occurrences.
Reminders
Tapping the Reminders icon at the bottom of the screen takes you to the Reminders area. The default view shows you all
reminders, first grouped by urgency, then sorted by occurrence date. Note: This screen might be empty if
you have no events occurring within their notice period.
In this example you can see that there is one Urgent reminder, which is also indicated by the number displayed next to the
Reminders icon at the bottom of the screen.
Tapping the Categories back-button shows you all of the enabled categories and how many reminders are currently in each
category. The color surrounding the count indicates the highest reminder urgency for that category.
In this example, we can see that there are four reminders for Birthdays and that the highest urgency level out of those four
reminders is Normal. We can also see that there is a single Education reminder and it is an Approaching reminder.
